From USA TODAY Bestselling Author John Ellsworth It was just a quick sandwich in the hospital cafeteria... But when she returned to her daughter's room... Whatever happened to Melissa's daughter is anyone's guess. The police seal the hospital doors; a search proceeds but the four-year-old is nowhere to be found The girl is gone, vanished without a ransom note, without a body being found, without a trace. The detectives believe she has most likely been sold into human trafficking. No matter, Melissa is determined. She is also very, very bright, a woman who refuses to give up, a woman who knows what motherhood means. She journeys to Mexico in search of her missing child. She confronts the Tijuana Cartel. Do they have her daughter? Twelve years have passed by and she no longer has any idea what the little girl even looks like. Then...two unmistakable eyes peer out at her from a passing van. But was it Melissa's daughter? Watch one desperate woman and one lost child try to reach across time and connect. A story to please you to the very end.

A psychological thriller you'll want to read in one sitting...

The Empty Place at the Table John Ellsworth Jode Jurgensen Books

Didn't bother to finish

The story started to go down hill when the mother, out of nowhere, suddenly decided her daughter was taken for sex trafficking 12 years after her daughter disappeared. It went further down hill when the mother GOOGLED the biggest gang in Mexico and just like that decided it must be that gang who had taken her precious daughter (and she also managed to find the boss of the gang, where they operate in Google). And some how she convinced her family and some military personnel with her google search to plot an assault against the biggest gang in Mexico and decided she needed to kill the boss.

I finally stopped reading when the writer very conveniently created a car accident for the mother on the way to the gangster's home and the other car turned out to be carrying her daughter.........

The writer spent 1/3 of the book creating this dead-ended, hopeless case of kidnapping which both public and private investigators failed to solve, but broke it down in 3 pages because the mother suddenly decided it was sex trafficking and googled. There was no new discoveries, no need leads leading to the development of the case.

I found this book literally unbelievable. How this book got so many good reviews is puzzling to me. I find the future readers should see some reviews of a different opinion.

The Empty Place at the Table John Ellsworth Jode Jurgensen Books Reviews

I have been a huge John Ellsworth fan of his legal thrillers. What the ???? happened? This has got to be one of the worst books I've ever read, and I read all the time. Even from the very beginning adopting a baby your fiancé conceived with your BFF, room mate. Not gonna happen, any woman this stupid would not be able to take on a drug cartel and win. And once the baby is kidnapped it doesn't occur to anyone that the real birth mother may be a person of interest? Every part of this novel resonated as unbelievable, over the top, 2 dimensional. The main players don't even know how to converse with each other. So many important aspects were left out and too much crap was inserted--none of it within the realm of possibility, forget probability.

Everything was soooo convenient and so unrealistic. A father that returns from war 12 years later but is conveniently converted to Islam so there is no chance of him reclaiming his role as husband? ARE YOU SERIOUS? I felt like a child could have written a better story--this novel wouldn't pass YA status. Unless all you read are 10 cent romances, this book should make you angry that you spent your time and money on it. I could go on, but there is nothing good to say about this novel. I rarely give 2 star ratings, this storyline doesn't even rank that high. Was this a true collaboration? Did you share your chapters with your co-writer or did you just each write something and then stick it together at the end?

All I can really say is PLEASE STOP INSULTING YOUR FOLLOWERS INTELLIGENCE !!
John Ellsworth does it again another psychological thriller, that will have you turning pages anxiously devouring every twist and turn.
Our heroin is an extremely strong individual. The story starts off with her four year old daughter very sick in the hospital. She leaves for about 10 minutes to grab a sandwich. Upon her return her daughter is missing. The hospital is searched but her daughter is no where to be found.
This sets up the plot for the whole book. She searches from years. She will never give up. She has a 22year old nephew living with her who is game for every adventure she wants to follow. She also befriends a female detective who takes the case to heart.
She has an interesting love life.
I will say no more except to say this is a great read. I highly recommend.
First and foremost, this book is SADLY in need of an editor. And if it had passed through the hands of a reputable editor, it would never have seen the light of day, or would at least have been unrecognizable as a derivative of this manuscript. The author left suspension of disbelief in another hemisphere. A little girl is kidnapped. The police, FBI, and ex-military PIs have a name but are unable to close the case. Twelve years after the girl disappeared, the mother is able to google the name and find it connected to a Mexican drug cartel. (Google's good, but ... really!?) That's just the beginning. Follow page after page after page of improbable events, names changing from page to page, unbelievable characters, inexplicable motives. I can't complain about wanting those few hours of my life back, as I kept reading to see if at all possible the book would improve. It did not.
I enjoyed this book very much. My only disappointment was the ridiculously high number of typos, unfinished sentences, and a reference to the wrong person several times. The entire book needs to be slowly proofed and edited for these errors, as there are so many. In reading the book, I felt that the story was very well researched and written. The timeline made sense, and the ending is (mostly) a happy one.
